Canola never finds any media

Your setup looks fine, maybe something else is failing there.

Can you check:
 - You have enough space at ~/.canola/ to store ~/.canola/canola.db
 - Remove ~/.canola/canola.db and reboot the device (remember to set
http password again!)
 - Close "Canola", remove "Canola-Applet" and then go to Xterm, kill
"canola-conf", start it again with:

   CANOLA_DEBUG=1 canola-conf -v -v -v 2>/media/mmc1/canola-conf-error.log

send this canola-conf-error.log
