Application manager does not work.

Ooh, don't "apt-get upgrade" or "apt-get dist-upgrade." I've bricked my
device 2 or 3 times doing that. The device doesn't (yet) support updating in
this manner. Only use check for updates in the application manager.

Since you did proceed through "apt-get -f install"--even though you say
nothing happened--I'm a little concerned. Please use the backup utility and
perform a backup. Then power the device off (Press the power button on top
and choose "turn off" from the list). Once it has turned off, turn it back
on. You should see the white Nokia logo and then either:
1) It continues to boot as normal, good.
2) Stays there, or the screen goes blank and it reboots.

If number 2 happens, you'll need to reflash. We can help with that, no
problem. You'll be glad you backed up. If number 1 happens, Good! no major
damage. Let's figure out your other problem.

As for the application manager, I think the problem /might/ be that you've
been adding repositories to your sources.list manually. You should really
add them from within Application Manager: Tools: Application catalog

Try adding a "#maemo:name SOMENAME" entry on the line before each of your
repositories.

Eg:
#maemo:name Nokia Catalogue (3rd party software)
deb http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com/non-certified/ bora user
#maemo:name maemo bora
deb http://repository.maemo.org/ bora free non-free
#maemo:name maemo bora extras
deb http://repository.maemo.org/extras/ bora free non-free
... and so forth
