Yes. The "30 Meg" figure comes from the Installed-Size field of the .deb package and the Application installer blindly believes it. Installed-Size is measured when building the package, which usually happens on a 'normal' filesystem, such as ext3. (I think. Maybe it is measured by looking at the tarball?)
