It contains the login records. when you ask information about current login's, boots etc. the data is collected from utmp / wtmp I think it is safe to zero the contents: you looose the information about the login history : best practice is to make a copy and than empty it. as a test i emptied my system's wtmp :-) On a desktop system -- groetjes Frank
