Yes, the main goal is to have old ipvsadm binaries (starting from the
first netlink version) also work with newer kernels. So you wouldn't
even need to recompile for this case.

We'll have to see if we can make it work the other way around, too
(older kernel, newer ipvsadm), although that isn't as important as
keeping old kernel interfaces.
