I had this occur and I disabled vgscan ("mv /sbin/vgscan /sbin/vgscan.BROKEN; echo "vgscan is kaputt" > /sbin/vgscan") That sort of handeled it, as vgscan is not needed at bootup, a "vgchange -a y" is sufficient.
