linux-2.6.7 parallel port adapter

It works perfectly fine under Linux-2.4.26,
it only crashes under Linux-2.6.7

the i2c-parport (not light) does seem to work under 2.6.7, at least
with the problem i described earlier (it is damn slow).
i get a sysfs entry

/sys/devices/platform/i2c-0

with all device/chip subdirectories
(e.g. /0-004c for a pcf8591 with that address).
however reading and writing the input/output or
read/write files seems to be tooo slow.
