I'm not sure we needed to do a 2.8.7 package for i2c, or to say on the download page that sensors 2.8.7 requires i2c 2.8.7. There's nothing in the i2c changelog of note (and the changelog needs to be fixed to note that we didn't have a 2.8.5 or 2.8.6 release). Khali do you know of anything? If not let's fix the download page.
