If we had a populated dfops on entry, we'd skip over those items and leave them for the caller as if nothing happened. I used this pattern here partly so this change would be transparent to the multiple callers with respect to ->t_dfops and partly because I was too lazy to pull it into the callers. ;) I don't think any of the callers currently set ->t_dfops anyways, so this logic is probably unnecessary. I could just replace it with an assert that ->t_dfops == NULL on entry (and reset it back to NULL similar to the recovery changes) since that is unlikely to change before this is all fixed up. Alternatively, just pulling dfops up into the callers probably mirrors the end goal where ->t_dfops is internal to the caller's transaction anyways. Preference?
