I'm sure that there are a multitude of places where MODULE_VERSION is
unnecessary, but killing it from the entire kernel simply won't
happen. I know that in the SCSI subsystem some of the
vendor-maintained drivers use this to keep track of exactly which
version is running on a given kernel. (Why not use kernel releases?
not sure, probably a combination of user-interface, distro backporting
and internal systems.)
