I applied the patch: http://www.intellinuxwireless.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=1564 to 2008-09-14 version of compat-old and I can confirm that it works and it is possible to use managed mode (associate, authenticate via WEP and get IP address via DHCP) after monitor mode is switched off. I found that it doesn\'t work always and the closest description I can get is: the following combination was OK: (wlan0 is up in managed mode) ifconfig wlan0 down ifconfig wlan0 up iwconfig wlan0 channel 6 essid Net2 key s:12345 ap 00:19:5B:E0:F3:20 dhclient wlan0 but if I try: (wlan0 is up in managed mode) ifconfig wlan0 down iwconfig wlan0 channel 6 essid Net2 key s:12345 ap 00:19:5B:E0:F3:20 ifconfig wlan0 up iwconfig wlan0 channel 6 essid Net2 key s:12345 ap 00:19:5B:E0:F3:20 dhclient wlan0 Please note the iwconfig used when wlan0 is down. If I use it in this way, then dhclient is not able to get IP address most of the time. Turning off and on again wlan0 and not using iwconfig while wlan0 is down seems to cure the problem and in the next round dhclient will get IP.
