I just got an E-mail from HP announcing a free repair for certain
laptop models. The appropriate URL is

They also announced a BIOS update that changes the fan control to be
more aggressive. Reading between the lines, it seems that the problems
are caused by overheating due to a too low fan setting.
Ironically, I received this announcement one day after I sent my
laptop back to Best Buy for warranty repair of this issue.
