Something is keeping the io_edgeport driver from being loaded. It should be automatically found and bound to this device when you plug it in. I don't know what to suggest at this point in time other than to file a bug with Ubuntu, sorry. If you can build your own kernel version, from kernel.org, then I can try to help you out.
