So, if you do:
	modprobe xhci-hcd
from the command line, as root, what happens?

It looks like Knoppix isn't loading the driver properly, it's not a
kernel problem (yet), so I would recommend filing a bug with them, as I
bet, once the driver is loaded, it will work better :)
