I see. You must make sure all interfaces of the device are idle.
Then writing "auto" into the power/control file of the device should
cause a suspend after 2 seconds of delay by default.

If that doesn't happen and you have ruled out obvious causes you
best compile a kernel with CONFIG_PM_DEBUG and CONFIG_USB_DEBUG.
