I have been preparing a patch that adds cp2104 support myself. It may be
possible to avoid using the product descriptor (and thereby, for
example, automatically get cp2105 support as well without the need to
analyse the product string further).

Greg, could you wait with this one until I have time to finish up and
submit my patch later today or this weekend?
