Could you please provide your platform?
I used the HuaWei E180 3G modem on mpc8360emds(linux-2.6.22, and linux-2.6.35) and p1022ds(linux-2.6.32 and linux-2.6.35), they both can work well.

The below is the configure for 3G modem based on linux-2.6.35:

Maybe you may check the kernel configure for 3G modem.
