Marcel Holtmann posted the exact same patch in July, except for the
protocol 0x08 which I'm not at all certain is correct:

Don't know why that was forgotten.  Maybe it got lost tin the big
kernel.org drain?

Anyway, since I was just given one of these devices (although labelled
as "Huawei E392"), I'm also extremely interested enabling these extra
interfaces.  And I'm also interested in knowing if you actually tested
the 0x08 protocol part of this?  Does that work? My modem reports:

Which matches up with protocol 0x08 being "NDIS".  I assumed that would
be more than just a plain serial interface?  I also note from my lsusb
output that there isn't a one-to-one mapping between SETPORT output and
protocol for "NDIS".   It seems as if the "NDIS" port is using two
interfaces with protocols 8 and 9, and the protocol 9 one also has some
extra data (vendor specific descriptor of some sort?).
