What kind of libusb API > addition is required? There needs to be new API in both the usbfs code in the Linux kernel, and in libusb. Tatyana (on Cc) had a patch to add streams allocation/deallocation support to usbfs, and I had a couple comments on the patch, but I haven't seen an updated patch. The subject was "[PATCH/RFC 5/5] usb: Add support for streams alloc/dealloc to devio.c" on June 30th, if you want to look it up in the mailing list archives.
