The .config file used for this build was from a working 2.6.35.7 using defaults for all differences. NB this config had MSI disabled: CONFIG_ARCH_SUPPORTS_MSI=y # CONFIG_PCI_MSI is not set After re-building the kernel with MSI enabled: CONFIG_ARCH_SUPPORTS_MSI=y CONFIG_PCI_MSI=y the error message and spurious interrupts went away.
