Whenever you do get back to your original problem, I'd be happy to discuss with you, on-list or off-list, how serial flow control is supposed to work so that the actual problem can be discovered and fixed. I believe there's one remaining problem with the ftdi_sio driver. Perhaps it's what your problem is.
