I am looking for info on the MTP support in the kernel. Is there any
existing support?

If you're thinking about device-side MTP there is two patchsets floating
around on this list which should be of interest:
- A largeish PTP support patchset, which can probably be extended
to encompass (non-DRM) MTP as well
- An MTP stub intended to run an MTP stack in userspace

Additionally to what Linus said, I think that so far GadgetFS was
used with on user-space daemon implementing MTP. (I've recently
posted some patches to implement FunctionFS if you want to create
an composite gadget.)
