I have a tentative patch that I will submit in a day or two after we make sure it correctly fixes the issue. Though I'd previously tried getting it to reproduce in KASAN, I didn't have any luck; getting one of these backtraces was the final piece of the puzzle I was missing, so hopefully the fix is correct.
