There's no reason to delay; this patch can go in now.  It's already 
true that a device cannot be suspended against the driver's wish.

P.S.: I intend to send in the PM-conversion patches soon, probably next
week.  I've been waiting for the merge window to end and the flurry of
-rc1 fixes to die down.  Not to mention that very little real work gets
done during the holidays...
