Hi Alan, 

Thank you for sending the patch; I got a copy of kernel 2.6.27.39 from
kernel.org and applied Oliver's patch and then your patch, and built it. 
I tested it with a sierra modem and an active PPPD session; pulling the
modem during the session no longer results in the oops. So I confirm that
the patch fixes the problem I reported. 

Thanks for taking the time to make (and remake) the patch for me. Much
appreciated!
