I don't know the reason why your power usage went down after the "echo 
auto", but I don't think uvcvideo had anything to do with it.

In fact, you should run your test again, but this time do "rmmod 
uvcvideo" just after the system finishes booting.  Then the uvcvideo 
driver will be completely out of the picture.  Also, try doing 
"echo on >1-8/power/level" to see if the usage goes up again.
