The test progrem for the binary interface (also called usbmon) worked, last time I checked. Probably Wireshark (or pcap) does something different. Would you run the usbmon(8) and see if that works? In case your distro doesn't have it, build it from source: http://people.redhat.com/zaitcev/linux/usbmon-5.4.tar.gz If it fails too, capture two traces just like you've done with the patched Wireshark. If usbmon(8) works, run strace on Wireshark, please.
