https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=213081 Bug ID: 213081 Summary: usb-storage / uas Genesys Logic Card Reader no longer working on 5.12 Product: Drivers Version: 2.5 Kernel Version: 5.12.4 Hardware: All OS: Linux Tree: Mainline Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P1 Component: USB Assignee: drivers_usb@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Reporter: peter.ganzhorn@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Regression: No Created attachment 296763 --> https://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=296763&action=edit dmesg log after plugging in card reader and inserting card Hello, my USB SD card reader is no longer working with Linux 5.12. Up to Linux 5.11.21 the device is working flawlessly. T: Bus=06 Lev=03 Prnt=03 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#= 4 Spd=5000 MxCh= 0 D: Ver= 3.00 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 9 #Cfgs= 1 P: Vendor=05e3 ProdID=0749 Rev=15.31 S: Manufacturer=Generic S: Product=USB3.0 Card Reader S: SerialNumber=000000001531 C: #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=80 MxPwr=896mA I: If#=0x0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 2 Cls=08(stor.) Sub=06 Prot=50 Driver=usb-storage It is integrated in my display and probably made by Genesys Logic (display type is Benq PD3200U). My system is a x86_64 (Intel Haswell). After inserting a SD card into the reader usb-devices output hangs when accessing the device. Also reading data from a inserted SD card is not possible (e.g. cfdisk /dev/sdb will hang forever). I've attached my dmesg output. It begins after plugging in the USB cable into the display and the hub and card reader being detected. After this I inserted a SD card into the reader and tried to run cfdisk. I've tried multiple cards and the result is the same with all of them. All the cards are working with the same reader and Linux 5.11.21. Another USB card reader (Realtek VID 0x0BDA PID 0x0301) I own works without any issues with 5.12. Some change after Linux 5.11 must have broken the support for this card reader. Please tell me if I can provide further information to investigate and fix the issue.
