Yes, the patch works fine!  I've inserted/removed ehci-hcd and opened/closed
ttyACM0 withouth a hitch ~100 times now.

This isn't HCD related, but seems to be a bug in the ACM devices' firmware:
If it gets disconnected from USB it will happy re-enumerate but not send
any data until it gets resetted externally.
