external USB-Speaker and "Not enough bandwidth for altsetting 1"

Hi,

When I connect my new USB speaker, dmesg is flooded with the following
message repeated over and over, and the speaker is not reconized as a
sound device:

[  317.492017] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: Trying to add endpoint 0x2
without dropping it.
[ 317.492019] usb 3-8: Not enough bandwidth for altsetting 1
[  317.492020] usb 3-8: 2:1: usb_set_interface failed (-22)

It seems the problem was already reported, as I found this thread when
searching for the device id e3b4:0811:

https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-usb/msg128181.html

$ uname -a
Linux quarto 4.15.0-15-generic #16-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 4 13:58:14 UTC
2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I once managed to get the speaker to work by disabling XHCI, but I
forgot how I did it (and I assume it is best to fix xhci_hcd).

Can someone help me solve the problem?
