Summary kernel 4.14 breaks cups functionality in regards of USB Printer support on gentoo linux.

A test kernel with the same kernel config with antique 4.1.x kernel on gentoo, oldest stable available kernel on gentoo, as described on kernel.org bugzilla, yielded in instantly working printer. But broken wifi which seems to be more a changed symbol of the wifi module over the kernel branches.
Root cause faulty kernel usb stack, as the only component exchanged was the kernel to get it going.

a test installation of newst linux mint, on a very old notebook MSI Cr-700, + providing unzipped ppd file for my business printer instantly made it working. linux mint uses outdated old software of course. the old cups version is not in the gentoo portrage tree anymore. kernel 4.10 afaik is also dated.

Workaround now, bootup antique 4.1.x kernels to print something. kernel 4.1.x is not an option as i need those ext4 patches which were later introduced.
Use another notebook with fresh linux mint, but outdated software packages and outdated kernel.
