Hi,

there is no need to apologize for writing a patch to address a FIXME
issue. It just looks like a better approach might be to remove the
hook altogether. Maybe you could make a patch for patch and write
a nice entry for the change log explaining how it could be reintroduced
should the need arise in the future?
