Yes, FW vendors provide the IDs. AMI it's their own ID, for SMC they
use another one (I forgot which), etc...

One option is to mandate having IDs in the device-tree but that leaves
open the question of what to put for the Aspeed eval board since Aspeed
themselves doesn't have a USB ID :-)

Alan, do you know the process to get one of the LF IDs ? Is that a
reasonable request ?
