Ok guys,
Just got an powered external USB hub (Trust) and it worked immediately!
So, it must be very sensitive on the voltage (4.96V to low).
Now I have to find a way to tap 5 real volts from the asus eee pc. The
system must be able to work without (220V) power being plugged in.
I have seen some pictures with 5 Volt points (really 5 V?) of people
building in all kinds of devices.
Suggestions are welcome.
Anyhow, many thanks for your help determining the cause of the problem!

Regards,
Wim
