Got this in dmesg again during a compilation with James's patch and the
first of yours applied:
[ 9426.263657] usb 2-2: reset SuperSpeed USB device number 2 using xhci_hcd
[ 9426.276999] usb 2-2: Parent hub missing LPM exit latency info. Power
management will be impacted.
[ 9426.277137] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called
with disabled ep ffff8804266df800
[ 9426.277139] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: xHCI xhci_drop_endpoint called
with disabled ep ffff8804266df840
But seemingly with no consequences, ie. indeed no more hangs and the
compilation finished. Guess it may have still corrupted some ccache
file, though.
Anyway, I'll apply the second patch to the kernel now.

OK, I'll try the two patches in the way you wrote. Does it matter if the
patch from James (the one also suggested to me by Alan) stays applied as
well?
The bug hasn't occurred since I applied the latter, but then again there
were days before that when it didn't happen either.
Hard to really say if something works or not with a bug like this.
