Indeed that is the documented alias, although stable@xxxxxxxxxx works as 
well and is used frequently:

  comet:~/tip> git log v3.0..v3.12 | grep 'stable@xxxxxxxxxx' | wc -l
  1390
  comet:~/tip> git log v3.0..v3.12 | grep 'stable@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx' | wc -l
  4750
