It creates an empty file   which tgtd then treats as a burnable dvd+r.
This can just as well be done by running "touch" to create an empry
file, but I think it would be
nice if one would use tgtimg for all devices.

I would then create similar code for tgtimg to create a disk device.
Just creating the file and writing zero to the entire file, just like
dd would do.



Metadata is a different topic. As you say,  xattr is difficult to use
in a unified way to store things because of SSC requiring so much
metadata.
I will leave metadata in targets.conf for now until there is consensus
on how to handle it in an acceptable way for MMC and SBC.
Perhaps one could use *.tgtd-metadata files to store the metadata for
MMC and SBC devices isntead of xattr?
