Hi Janina,
Could you do an update again?
I am pretty sure it has to do with the inconsistancies on your machine.
I have added an error message to help show this up, and a workaround for
when sam finds your machine in a bad mood.
We can take the error message out if we know that the workaround always
works.
Well, once sam is stable on your machine, I think it will be so on most
machines <grin>.
Basicly what seem to cause the error, is that the two methods of listing
the cards which I now both use, give different results.
Others do not need to update.

Hi, Willem:
Regret the following error on today's sam. Might this relate to the
missing RME Multiface which lspci and lsmod see, but alsa doesn't?
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/local/bin/sam", line 244, in <module>
cards=get_cards()
File "/usr/local/bin/sam", line 239, in get_cards
cards.append(shortnames[c]+' '+alsaaudio.card_name(c)[0]+'
card number '+str(c))
IndexError: list index out of range

Hi,
I uploaded another update.
The only change since last night's update, is that card names are now more
complete, including the card number at the end.
Regards, Willem
