looking at the package content here: https://www.archlinux.org/packages/community/x86_64/espeak-ng/ You could miss symlinks to make espeakup happy, as it needs libespeak.so.1 that is not listed. Try this as root: cd /usr/lib ln -sf libespeak-ng.so.1 libespeak.so.1 ln -sf libespeak-ng.so.1 libespeak.so Caveat: I can't try, not running Arch Linux.
