Unless it's already known, it might be useful to document what was left in /etc/default/espeakup alsa card information along with relevant output from dmesg and uname -ar before fixing that file then documenting the change to that file that makes the sound card work.

I don't think anybody made an actual bugreport, just mails on lists etc.

I can still install using my braille display. Will this bug persist in the installed system?

Perhaps you'll need to fix /etc/default/espeakup's ALSA_CARD, but once
fixed it should work.
