I'm also very sorry to hear this.  I didn't know he was sick.

I didn't know Bill the way some who wrote here did, but I knew him enough by way of his help getting speakup working in Fedora 17. And, of course I benefited from his work on earlier Fedora releases. I think that, like me, he was something of a Stephen King fan.
