I have orca working on kali linux but this only happened after an installation. At the beep on boot up I hit s followed by enter then kali linux waited a few seconds and started asking me questions the way debian does. After all those were answered and it was time to reboot, orca came up talking on the reboot. I was very surprised.

Subject: enabling sound

Hello,

I am working on a customized version of the kali 2.0 live cd. Kali is based on debian jesse.

The kali 2.0 live or installed system does not have sound working at the moment, so when I try to get either speakup or orca running I have no sound.

Is there some trick to getting pulseaudio, alsa, and either speakup or orca working?
