I have installed gentoo several times. If you go into make menuconfig you type a / followed by the string you want and the search results are displayed. Any other questions, just ask I think there are others on the list who have done this. Also, I would recomend using lvm which I don't think is covered in the handbook but will make your life much easier -- and its easy to get speakup working with either hardware or software synth!
