This all sounds really interesting. Because I see that both Vim and Emacs have some very powerful features, I am probably going to try and learn both of them. I have actually used Vim completely for all text editing needs through the past few weeks, and I must say I am really glad that I can get things done so quickly. I sure wish that I would have known about Linux much earlier on in my life, but I am sure glad to be using it now!
