Hi: Speakup were included in 2.6.37. But Debian 6.0 ships with 2.6.32. So I'll build and install from source then. But I prefer to let APT handle all package management. So I'll probably build my own Speakup DEB package from the source and install that .deb package with dpkg to keep it clean. Subject: Re: Speakup on Debian 6.0 "squeeze" hello: type uname-r. If your kernel is higher than 2.6.38 (I believe is when speakup got included), you just need espeakup. If your kernel however is lower than 2.6.38, you will need to build the modules yourself (which is a trivial process. I'll explain it below). First, grab the speakup package from linux-speakup.org, and untar it in /usr/src switch to the speakup/src directory, type make, then make modules_install. If you get errors through make, you will probably need to install kernel headers: apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r) HTH, On 5/12/2011 10:24 AM, ?yvind Lode - Forums wrote: > Hi: > > root at ragnarok:~# apt-cache search speakup > espeakup - Connector between speakup kernel modules and espeak > speakup-doc - Documentation for speakup kernel modules > speakup-source - Source of the speakup kernel modules > speakup-tools - Tools to manage speakup configuration and synths > root at ragnarok:~# > > Does this mean I have to build the Speakup modules myself? > This is not the case on lenny but I had to build espeakup myself but espeakup is now included in squeeze. > I still prefer Debian on my servers and I plan to upgrade my file server to Squeeze soon. > I guess I'm a bit surprised to not find a binary Speakup-modules package in Squeeze. > > Thanks > _______________________________________________ > Speakup mailing list > Speakup at braille.uwo.ca > http://speech.braille.uwo.ca/mailman/listinfo/speakup > -- Take care, Ty my website: http://tds-solutions.net my blog: http://tds-solutions.net/blog skype: st8amnd127 "Programmers are in a race with the Universe to create bigger and better idiot-proof programs, while the Universe is trying to create bigger and better idiots.
