unable to make oldconfig with speakup in 2.6.36-gentoo-r5

Hi John,

on gentoo, for that version of the kernel, I recommend you use the
speakup package.

So, build, compile and install the kernel, without attempting to install
speakup into it. Then, make sure that /usr/src/linux points to the
correct kernel, and emerge speakup. That will install the speakup
modules. You will get a message from portage when you do that that tells
you where to set up the module so that it will autoload when you boot
your system.
