Ah, well, that's good to hear.  We've have two rather different
experiences, though; maybe it depends on what you customise ...

Conclusion: who knows, it might be worth a try.
(a quick look in http://packages.debian.org/unstable/kernel/
 shows me only 2.6.32, the same as testing...)
