I'm not sure I follow. I believe you said you're virtualizing using virtualbox. If that's correct, then a virtual machine is no different than a physical machine. In fact, I'd argue it's better than a physical machine, since you're guest machine doesn't need a physical hard drive, and all the restrictions that entails if you want to start over, or just experiment. The only difference a physical machine might make for you, and I stress the word might, is if it had a sound card different than the two that virtualbox emulates. I'm not a arch user, so am afraid I can't address that aspect of your post.
