key echo in speakup

Hi,

I am trying to turn off key echoe in speakup.

Using debian lenny.

I found a file in /sys/module/speakup called key_echoe which just
contained a 1. I used nano to edit and change this to 0 which did stop
key echoe. However, following a reboot, key echoe was back.

So, am I doing this wrong? How should I go about setting key echoe to
off?

Many thanks.
