Hi their. What' I do know is what' you describe was and probably stil taking placed on knoppix. The speakup version had a talking boot prompt. It probably used something similar.

Is this even possible?  What I would like to do is have grub's output
go to a serial port.  I know grub has a serial terminal option but
then you would probably have to interract both ways from the connected
serial terminal like another computer running minicom or something.  I
thought it would be cool if I could keep using the regular console for
input but have the output go to my hardware synth.

Anyone done more with grub then make it beep once?
